Hotel Edelweiss Berchtesgaden
Hotel Edelweiss is located in the center of Berchtesgaden. A bus stop is located a few meters from the entrance. Three disabled parking spaces are located across the street in the public parking lot. The entrance area has no steps and is wide enough for a wheelchair user. The seating area in the lobby is wheelchair accessible. It is easy to find your way around the lobby. The reception staff is helpful and courteous. Registrations are done in advance online or by email. There is no registration form in easy language. Information on costs (e.g. minibar, etc.) can be obtained in the room via a connection with QR code. The hotel has elevators that go to all floors. In the basement there is a handicapped accessible toilet with changing table, which can be reached by elevator. The elevator is a bit narrow, but wide enough for a wheelchair user. The buttons in the elevator do not have Braille or tones. The rooms are easy to find. However, the staff is happy to offer their assistance if needed. The height from the bed is not adjustable and there is no lift. There is enough room on one side of the bed for a wheelchair to approach and with assistance a wheelchair user can get into bed. It should be noted that this is very individual and depends on the wheelchair user. The light can be switched on and off from the bed.
The WC and bathroom in the room also do not meet accessibility standards, but can be used by wheelchair users with assistance, depending on the type. The entrance to the WC and bathroom is narrow and is only about 90 cm. The WC does not have grab bars, but mobile suction handles can be reserved when booking at the hotel. The WC is very narrow for a wheelchair user and offers no room to turn (an individual assessment must be made here!): The shower has no grab bars and is not at ground level. Showering is therefore only possible with assistance and not with every disability. The sink is not accessible and too high.
The breakfast room and dining room on the first floor are easy to find. The tables are wheelchair accessible. The buffet counters can be reached by a wheelchair user with assistance. The terrace leading outside from the dining room is only accessible to a wheelchair user with assistance due to a small step and door. Staff will bring drinks and food to the table if needed. Another restaurant "Einkehr" is located in the back of the hotel and is accessible for wheelchair users only via the main entrance (not via the pedestrian zone).
On the top floor there is a panoramic terrace which can be reached by elevator. The doors to the roof terrace have a small elevation and are passable with assistance, depending on the type. The tables are accessible by wheelchair. The spa and fitness area is accessible by elevator, but applications such as sauna and fitness equipment cannot be used by wheelchair users. Cosmetic treatments are possible. It should be noted that the hotel does not meet accessibility standards. Use is possible depending on the type, nature and individuality of the disability and must therefore also be decided individually.
