Vogelparadies Weidmoos
The Weidmoos in the north of Salzburg used to be a large moor.
Bogs are very wet areas.
Only small plants grow there.
The soil cannot absorb all the rain water.
Therefore the soil has very little oxygen.
Destroyed plants can not be completely decomposed.
The not decomposed remains are called peat.
Peat is used, for example, to make things burn more easily.
Until almost 20 years ago people used to dig peat in the Weidmoos.
Since then nature has been restored very quickly
The Weidmoos is a good habitat for many rare birds.
